Narrative (may be redacted).

I have received MANY phone calls by unknown numbers, often at early hours of the day. ( XXXX may be reasonable to lawmakers, but is ridiculous to me ). These come to both my home and cell numbers. Sometimes these calls can come XXXX times within a XXXX minute time-span. This is ridiculous and unacceptable, hence this complaint. Because I do not know the number, I have no reason to pick up. They should leave a voicemail message, identifying themselves and who they are calling for. This information is never provided. I answered XXXX of these calls from yet another unknown number ( this time at least a company name showed up on caller ID : XXXX XXXX ). The caller let me know this number was listed as an alternate number for my brother. Ok. That 's fine. I can take/deliver a message. Then the caller continued to say that they have been trying to reach him for a long time. I told the caller this is the XXXX message I have received. If a message is not left, this is the XXXX attempt to contact my brother at this number. Then I found out that this company is the one that has been calling and hanging up, with no voice mail message, which has been disruptive and harassing to me. This is NOT ok.
The caller 's response was that they are not permitted to leave a message on voice mail, by law.
1 ) if this is true, then the FTC needs to revise the law. I am sure this harassment is happening to other consumers, not just me. I am a law abiding consumer with great credit. I am willing to be the alternate contact for my brother and work with him to help find resolution, if that is what 's needed. However, the harassing phone calls are inexcusable!!! The credit collection company must be able to leave some kind of message.
2 ) if this is not true and the company is allowed to leave a voice mail message, but instead instructs their employees to frequently dial numbers and hang up until someone picks up, then my complaint is against Central Credit Services. This practice is NOT ok. There must be some way to respect the people at the other end of the phone line ( including responsible consumers like me ) with basic information that does not give out confidential information. Perhaps a message stating " my name is XXXX from XXXX company. I am trying to reach so and so regarding a personal matter. Please call XXXX stating reference number XXXX. " There must be a way to protect responsible consumers, while still allowing the credit collection companies to function.
