School : The XXXX XXXX College XXXX XXXXLocation : XXXX, MAIt is very difficult to make extra payments to just the principle of my loan. I wait until the day my monthly payment is deducted so the accrued interest is zero, or at its lowest. However, then there are additional challenges such as fees to make the payment instantly online ( {$1.00} ), a percent fee to make it over the phone ( for a {$1000.00} payment the fee was going to be {$49.00} ), or errors with their online fee scheduling program insisting I select that I am making the payment on behalf of someone else. While the fee for instant payment online was low, it was still present, and I would have had to call the loan servicer at a later date once the payment was processed to direct the payment to go towards the specific loan I intended. It was not until I sounded very angry and frustrated was I then told I could give them the confirmation code immediately to request the payment be applied to the loan of my choosing. It appears that my loan company intentionally creates confusing, extra steps and expenses to borrowers from being able to make additional payments, especially applied to only the principle.
