Complaint was submitted via Web and sent to the company on Thursday 31st December 2015.
This was a medical expense for an expensive procedure that was eventually covered in full by my insurance. At first my insurance only covered the expense as out of network, but I filed an appeal and eventually got my insurance to cover the entire expense as in-network. The appeal process took a long time, but all the while I called XXXX the doctors office XXXX and the debt collector ( Allied Collection Services ) several times to inform them they will likely be paid by the insurance company, not me. I provided them with documents proving my claim was still under review by my insurance. They would n't even take them from me.
The debt collectors response was to threaten me with over {$700.00} in legal fees and interest. They also threatened to report me to the credit agencies. In order to " avoid all of this '' they forced me to sign a Promissory Note for the debt that was still in dispute. Before I signed I added notes to the side of the Promissory Note saying they will not do any of the above if and when they are paid by insurance. ( see attached ). They obviously ignored that, as even after my insurance has paid in full they reported " my debt '' to the credit agencies as unpaid.
I have forgotten bills before, and I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with debt collectors before. However, I have to say this debt collector was absolutely horrible to work with. Their tactics are horrible, they care nothing of the circumstances of the debt in question, and do not hesitate to threaten all kinds of actions against you. Also, when you call or visit them they transfer you from person to person each without enough experience/authority to do anything other than repeat the above threats.
