Complaint #1721967 submitted on 12/31/2015 relating to Amex. Complaint relates to Credit card - Billing disputes .
Complaint was submitted via Web and sent to the company on Thursday 31st December 2015.
I am an American Express ( AMEX ) customer. Prior to XXXX 2015, I made a hotel reservation through the AMEX XXXX ( XXXX ) web portal. Sometime in XXXX 2015, AMEX revised and remodeled the XXXX web portal in a manner that made prior reservations inaccessible to its customers and its AMEX Travel customer service unit. I was advised by AMEX Travel personnel that my reservation was irretrievable. Accordingly, I was led to believe my reservation was purged, erased and/or " lost. '' Months later I was charged a " no-show '' penalty by the hotel because it alleges the reservation was never cancelled, despite representations by AMEX travel that the reservation was " lost. '' I disputed the charge and AMEX has insisted that it is a valid charge. AMEX has consistently refused to acknowledge its responsibility for the penalty charge. I incurred the charge as a result of AMEX 's profound negligence, or as the result of a conspiracy of AMEX and its hotel partners to defraud and deceive its customers and impose frivolous, fraudulently incurred penalty charges when no services were rendered. I was given no opportunity to avoid imposition of such fraudulent charges. I have attached a letter I sent to AMEX that provides background on how AMEX 's negligent and/or fraudulent conduct resulted in an unlawful penalty charge that I was required to pay just to protect my consumer credit profile.
