As a longtime card holder who responsibly pays off his balance every month, I received a promotional email from American Express telling me " do n't forget '' that the card could " allow you the flexibility to pay over time '' during the holiday season and reminded me that I am " permitted '' to carry a balance on the card. The email did not mention that such behavior amounts to taking on personal debt, or that American Express would collect interest on this debt - though, of course, it would.
