Amex Complaint: Advertising and marketing

#1710647 21 Dec 2015

Credit card

Complaint #1710647 submitted on 12/21/2015 relating to Amex. Complaint relates to Credit card - Advertising and marketing .

Complaint was submitted via Web and sent to the company on Monday 21st December 2015.

Narrative (may be redacted).

I took advantage of a one-time online offer of {$1.00} ( plus tax ) to get my XXXX score from XXXX I thought I was being charged {$1.00} for this one-time score. However, XXXX signed me up for a monthly membership and charged me {$23.00}. I read through their online page and I never saw anything that said I was signing up for a membership. They did not e-mail me a receipt so I do n't have proof about this. After the charge appeared on my credit card, I telephoned them but they said that they would cancel my membership but not reimburse me for the difference. Apparently, many other people have had the same complaint about them XXXX.

Their advertising of the {$1.00} fee is deceptive with the fine print being placed in a small font at the bottom of the page ( I have been told ; I did not see it ). Their offer should say clearly ( not in fine print ) that this is a trial, that the person agreeing to it will be signed up for a monthly membership fee if they do n't cancel within 7 days, and that they should send a receipt for the agreement which lists the conditions. None of these conditions were true with XXXX. For a credit agency that supposedly investigates bad financial behavior and fraud, their behavior is anything but proper and open.
