Complaint #1695147 submitted on 12/13/2015 relating to Amex. Complaint relates to Credit card - Customer service / Customer relations .
Complaint was submitted via Web and sent to the company on Sunday 13th December 2015.
American Express sent a letter to me, dated XXXX XXXX, XXXX, stating that they were updating my address from XXXX, to XXXX ( I moved in XXXX ). However, I have not had any kind of relationship with American Express since I filed for personal bankruptcy in XXXX ; the balance on my old AMEX card was written off in the bankruptcy. On XXXX I called American Express Customer Service ( at XXXX ), spoke with XXXX, and asked him why they were trying to communicate with me via USPS. He told me I needed to call their " Special Handling Team '' at XXXX, which I did. I spoke with XXXX XXXX and asked her why they were communicating with me when we had not had a relationship in over a decade. She told me that they received information from " the USPS data base '' that my address had changed, and that is what triggered the letter. However, she refused to state why American Express had attempted to send a letter to me in the first place, and when I asked to speak with her supervisor, she hung up on me.
American Express is harassing and haranguing me over an old debt that was discharged in bankruptcy. American Express needs to tell me why they are trying to contact me and why they are harassing me. If it is in fact because of this old debt, they are violating the Fair Debt Collect Act and they need to be sanctioned for this violation of federal law.
