I called Kimball & Tierey in response to a letter to collect a debt. I was previously being garnished. I no longer work at the place I was garnished at but I did not want this debt on my credit history so I called to setup a payment. The following conversation occurred : I was not given a disclosure of the attempt to collect a debt. I called the line and spoke to a receptionist who then transferred me to an associate by the name of XXXX.
Me : " I would like to re-establish payments for my debt I was previously garnished on. " XXXX : " Verify your first name and last XXXX of your social. " Me : *verifies the information* " I want to setup a voluntary payment '' XXXX : `` Ok, what are you looking to pay? " Me : " Well right now I can definitely pay {$30.00}. " XXXX : " You can go ahead and submit a check or mail payments to us but {$30.00} a month would not be recognized as a formal payment that you could pay online. So if you send in whatever you can afford we can credit your account, we ca n't give you a receipt but if you do not set up a formal payment of no less than {$100.00} we can pursue informal collection. " Me : " So let me see if I understand, I am trying to make good faith payments you 'll accept them but if it 's not {$100.00} or more you will pursue garnishment if I get a new job? " XXXX : " Yes, you will be garnished. Sorry, just being honest. {$100.00} is our base formal payment. " Me : " ok, thanks. Just wanted to clarify. Goodbye. " Also, this debt is no longer reported on my credit history. It 's been 10 years and believe it 's beyond its statute of limitations.
