Hi, Years ago I had financial difficulties arising from unemployment and surgical bills. During that time most of my student loans went into default or deferment. I am now on my feet and have resolved all my old issues. All of my student loans are current, except my private student loans for XXXX XXXX XXXX through Access Group ( held by XXXX. ) These are in collections in the amount of $ 40,000+. I have been paying XXXX every month for years, but the amount is still high and wo n't be paid off for a decade. This leaves me with horrible credit ( It would be almost perfect without these collections as I pay everything on time now that I am working. ) I ca n't get a mortgage for a house and my interest rates are high based on my credit score even though I have perfect credit card payment history. I have been trying to resolve this with both XXXX and Access Group for over a year, but they will not help me rehabilitate or discuss anyway to get this removed from collections besides paying off the amount ( at 50 % charge off discount. ) I would immediately get a personal loan for XXXX to pay it off, but with the collections on my credit report I ca n't even do that. I called the XXXX XXXX department of Access Group again today pleading with them to help me resolve this in some way - I have no issue paying my debt, but having this in collections is affecting every aspect of my life - I almost did n't get the job I have now because of them. I was hoping CFPB may have dealt with this lender/collection agency before on this issues and that there was some way to help debtors in this situation. I realize they are private, but they are servicing student loans, so I would have thought they would be more amenable to people who were trying to do the right thing. Any help or information CFPB provides would be greatly appreciated. I had a complaint about 3 years ago that CFPB helped resolve so I know what a great help your agency can be.
