Complaint was submitted via Web and sent to the company on Wednesday 12th August 2015.
A XXXX sales agent contacted me in XX/XX/XXXX to inquire as to whether or not I was interested in switching from my phone provider to XXXX. The agent explained that the promotion entailed XXXX free minutes a month to any country of my choice. I inquired if the promotion included the XXXX XXXX. The agent replied in the affirmative. I expressed my surprise at this and ask for confirmation that the XXXX XXXX was included in the promotion. The XXXX agent again replied " yes - the XXXX XXXX is included ''. I selected the XXXX XXXX as my country for the free minutes and indicated to the XXXX agent that this was my sole and only reason for accepting the promotion and offer to switch to XXXX. She congratulated me on my selection.
In fact, the promotion did not include the XXXX XXXX and the bill for the XXXX month was {$800.00}. I called XXXX and the agent explained that the promotion in fact was never intended to cover the XXXX XXXX. I explained that I relied on the XXXX agent who misinformed me and cancelled my XXXX phone service. XXXX apologized for its error and indicated that I would not have to pay the bill. I received a credit for {$800.00} on my final bill. When I contacted XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, a representative confirmed that I owed {$0.00}.
However, I recently discovered that XXXX has turned the bill over for collection, ( the name of the company is Debt Recovery Solutions ) which has negatively impacted my credit score and has prevented me from refinancing my mortgage.
I have contacted the debt collection agency, which indicated to me that it has no information to support my assertion that the money is not owed, and that therefore, they will continue to try to collect the {$800.00}.
I again contacted XXXX, which informed me that since they sold the debt, that there is nothing that they can do to assist me to resolve the matter.
